"I am not in that group, but I hope those within it hear Kendrick’s message and take it to heart" As a queer nonbinary AMAB I think your point here is why I end up appreciating the song despite how uncomfortable (and in some cases, unsafe) it may make the trans community feel at large. If the target audience is black/toxically masculine men then the transparency and the honest narrative may create relatability that can hook them in to going on the journey with him. I think the mistakes are an honest reflection of his story and even though its uncomfortable for people to face, this is plenty of people's experience and the way they talked/talk about queer people, and being able to start for that point and bring people somewhere new can in many ways be more powerful than appealing more to a group that already understands.
